After a wildfire, ordinary needs can become urgent: groceries, clothing, toiletries, school supplies, gas, a phone charger, or a backpack for returning to school. Gift cards give people flexibility to purchase what they need most.

How your donation reaches a community.

We work directly with K–12 schools and colleges in communities affected by wildfire. School leaders privately identify the students, families, teachers, and staff members who could benefit from support. Project Spark does not request recipients’ names, addresses, or personal contact information. Donations support the purchase of gift cards and the basic materials and fees needed to prepare and deliver them.

Project Spark is a student-led community project and is not currently a registered 501(c)(3), so donations are not tax-deductible.

Frequently asked questions.

  • Your donation helps Project Spark purchase gift cards requested by our school partners. Each gift card is paired with a handwritten letter and delivered through the school to a family affected by wildfire loss.

    A small portion may also support processing fees and the materials required to prepare and deliver the letters and cards.

  • Project Spark supports a student, family, teacher, or staff member affected by wildfire loss.

    All support is coordinated through a verified K–12 school or college.

  • A school administrator, counselor, or other authorized staff member privately identifies the people within the school community who have been affected. The school tells us only how many people need support.

    We do not request recipients’ names or personal information.

  • Yes. Letters are welcome from people who have lived through wildfire and from those who have stood beside affected families and communities.

  • No. Project Spark is not currently a registered 501(c)(3), so donations are not tax-deductible.

  • Yes. We welcome students, survivors, schools, and community members who would like to write letters, organize a collection, or support a future campaign.

    Please contact us before organizing an event or collection so we can share current needs and guidelines.

  • Yes. Schools and community organizations can host letter-writing activities or gift-card drives with prior coordination from Project Spark.
